Walk To End Alzheimer’s

Fun highlights from the Walk to End Alzheimer’s 2024 in Bloomington IN

For nearly 20 years, I have participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, organized by the Alzheimer’s Association and local volunteers to raise money for a cure. I haven’t been as active in the last two years because of my busy life and work, but I still feel a warm sense of joy seeing many people unite for this cause. I cherish the hope reflected in the faces of those who believe a cure is on the way.

When I first attended, I didn't see many people with dementia at the "Memory Walk." I got involved in planning the walk and other community events. It was a lot of work, but it has always been worthwhile.

Today, you can see many blue flowers at walks nationwide. These blue flowers represent individuals who bravely live with dementia and participate in the event. I greatly respect those who guide others with dementia. I also admire the caregivers who continue to support their loved ones despite their own exhaustion.

As a professional that also has worked in long term care, I also know that juggling the plate of the busy facility or home health organization, makes it hard to find the time to participate in such and event. Kudos to those who find a way to do so.

After so many years of attending these events, you could say that I have seen how they have changed. When you get a chance to be a part of a something bigger than you (I am speaking of the bigger picture of community, support and hope for the future) it hits home in my heart. The smiles of others are contagious and leave me feeling thankful to have participated another year.

I have made a quick video of some of the highlights of that day, I sure hope that you enjoy it as I had fun learning how to put my photos and memories of the day into something creative to remember.
